Frequently asked questions

How does Cam to Scan work?

Optimising an image with Cam to Scan is done in three steps:
  • Set the outline: Cam to Scan tries to find the outline of an object automatically. If desired, you may manually set it with a few mouse clicks.
  • Straighten: the item is equalised to take on its original rectangular shape
  • Adjust the brightness: this step gives you the option to brighten or darken the image.

How can I process a large number of documents efficiently?

Cam to Scan Professional is designed to process an unlimited number of documents automatically. Just drag them to the program window and Cam to Scan does the rest!
Cam to Scan Advanced can process up to five documents in a single editing session.

How can I straighten an image if I don't know what size it is?

Cam to Scan can determine the size automatically. When straightening, check the format as "original size".

How do I achieve the best results?
  • The item should be as even as possible - avoid irregularities such as "dog-ears" or paper that has curled due to moisture.
  • Make sure the lighting is as even as possible.
  • Avoid extreme distortions.
  • Photograph the item in such as way that you can see all of it (i.e. its entire outline) on the photo.
  • The item should fill the photograph as far as possible.
  • Avoid photographic errors such as blurring, underexposure, shaking or noise.
  • The photo should have a resolution of at least three megapixels.

Is there also a version of Cam to Scan for Mac OS or Linux?

The Cam to Scan package includes an installation program for Mac OS X and a platform-independent Java-based installation program, e.g. for Linux.
Important notice for Mac OS X:
Apple has dropped Java support for Mac OS X 10.7 "Lion". There is still Java for Mac OS 10.7 availble from other manufacurers, but Cam to Scan is not tested there. Many users can run Cam to Scan with Mac OS 10.7, some not. Unfortunately, as of now we cannot guarantee that Cam to Scan runs with Mac OS 10.7.

Does Cam to Scan run on Windows 7?

Yes. Cam to Scan runs on Windows 7 32 Bit and on Windows 7 64 Bit in 32 Bit mode.

Can I save the photos I have edited as PDFs?

You can do this indirectly via the print function. Use a utility for this such as Free PDF, which is freeware.
Please note that for technical reasons exporting them is only possible in portrait format in Windows.
